In reality: the chain of thought in Taoism would be

Perhaps this summarizes a fundamental difference between East and West

I would add Taoism takes this a step further to behold life in terms of your potential. To behold each person in terms of their complete essence rather than define a person seen as a single event.

On a quick perusal, both statements appear to be saying the same thing. However, as you aptly point out, there is a significant difference.
