Midlife Transformations
I just wrote and published an article about Midlife Crisis.
This is a first part of two parts and the first draft of the first part of the article.
(Hee, writing that last sentence was fun).
Please comment, spot errors, and generally add your feedback.
(I just posted up the 2nd draft 2/21/07)
Peace

I am thrilled to find someone who understands what I'm am going through right now. I am going to replace "mid-life crisis" with "mid-life transformation" in my thinking and talking! Thanks for your article!
You are welcome.
Let others know. I have seen too many people lost in this stage of life, when it doesn't need to be that way, especially when just with a slight shift of the mind the whole experience changes from frustration to discovery.
Peace
It's brilliant,Friend! No need to change a thing. I especially like the final word!
Your a better writer than me! :~)

Thanks Zoe,
Heeeee, The way I write, I go thru drafts like candy. An updated version will be up by Friday, I see a few thing I want to add and a few mistakes to fix still.
I just hope it helps people. I find it interesting how such a major life transitional phase for so many people is just not very well addressed in western culture.
Transformation is the perfect word for what I have been experiencing. Finding that my "old life" no longer fits who I am, and who I am becoming. Perception is the key. I choose to see this as an exciting adventure and embrace the change with love and patience. Blessings to all.

HI Gypsy,
nice to meet you. yes once a person discovers ita bout transformation, and crisis is more a symptom of the difficulties in change. The whole process then becomes more powerful and easier to follow.
:)
Just posted about your midlife transformation article on my blog Man-o-pause.com http://www.man-o-pause.com/manopause/2007/04/the_tao_of_midl.html. I will spread the word and add you and your book under my Categories: Visionary Men and Midlife Crisis.
I liked your blog Man-o-pause and will add a link from this blog to your blog. you have compiled a nice site for the issue of mid life crisis. I am honored you liked what I wrote enough to include.
In time with time and some acceptance, I just hope that some what I have written helps others leap over some of the more unnecessary aspects of holding back when in the process of changing into oneself.
Casey, Thank you for visiting me in my crisis/transformation on RebelHousewife.com (http://www.rebelhousewife.com/midlife). Your article was very reassuring and hopeful, and good to read. Change is inevitable, but it does not have to be a crisis. I like the concept and possibility of transformation. Peace & Love, Sherri
Wow, what a great article! It's 2008, over a year since you wrote it but it's exactly what I need right now.
I'm 39, have been going through a depression and realize this is the beginning of the midlife crisis/transformation. I've even had dreams with themes about the end of young adulthood, including the tooth-loss dream, which I never had as a younger person. Now I see that dream was kind of a signal that the midlife transition had begun.
This is a painful state I'm in, but when I read essays like yours, it gives me hope that maybe there's something good on the other side.
I am glad to be of help.
Even more importantly, if you embrace the process, let it truly flow, it will take you further and to new places you never even imagined.
Most people resist, and that resistance just lessens the change. Most times resistance just means you have more problems while usually just going back to what you were.
Anon from yesterday, here...thank you Casey! I most emphatically do not want to slip back to what I was--even though I feel outside pressure to do so.
One thing I will do today, is write "I'm having a midlife transition" in my journal, then sign and date the statement. That way, it's there in black and white and at least I know. (I get the "you're too young for that!" a lot when I try to talk about this pain and confusion.)
And I'm off to read your connected website.
