Fairy Tales

Today's Poem....

Perhaps to tumble, as in:
Once upon a time...
Fairy tales, telling stories about our place.

Witness reality instead:
Once upon a time
A mermaid was tricked onto land.
Fooled into thinking she was a breeze.
She flies high and far in dreams...
while chains and pains kept her in place.

I do wonder...
Does she still know how to swim?

Stories and fairy tales accumulate.
Leading me to believe in many things.

Once upon a time
I knew a fool
It was... and is: me,
believing I could make a difference.

... Yet I do.
... once upon a time,
... in my daughter's smiling eyes..

Fairy tales: stories of here and now.
What we become: is never about the place.
As each day our feet trace the tale.

--Sigh--

So much I want to say, Instead I remain silent except for my journal here: as life has a way to working itself out... even if it isn't happily for ever ...

Happiness is not a definition. It's for others to live... to who they are...

My poetry is personal, but I wonder at times if others get the references. For example as my style is to merge written word poetry with spoken word accents. The last word silently reads as tale, but verbally speaks out as Tail...

We travel out our own path and as the mermaid trading her tail for tales and feet: so many hem in and step upon their own tails, dreams and nature...

I wonder if my friend knows part of this poem is for her: to show that she can still swim. And all I feel is an upwelling oceanic tear, since it appears she has forgotten.

time... passing time

At times you blink

and a week just goes by in that blink

At times you blink

and well the clock never moves... you just get stuck in that between time

For myself, I have been stuck in one of the seven league boots blinking moments. Its been a week since I last looked about.

One thing that has been happening is I have been catching up on my physical practice the past week. I have been writing up some notes on how to properly balance a practice.

Yoga is a practice which has been developed in large part to aid the shaping of a person's empty space. So it's strange to watch how some people concentrate only on the physical part of the practice. Yoga is a powerful practice, and sometimes I have watched people not balance the physical practice with a measure of spiritual practice: such an unbalance practice can warp one's empty-space about.

It's similar to watching a steel Submarine bending and tearing itself apart when diving too deeply under the water. The spiritual practice is an important counter pressure to protect one from hurting the body from the bends.

Anyways someday I will have to expand this out a bit. Just storing the thought here for future writings.

Lines

Death consists of lines...
within which ego colors a definition of life.

Thats the rub:
Ego busily coloring in details of a life
Ego busily coloring within the lines

Distracting a person, from a greater nature
extending far beyond any man made lines.

I never did color in the lines as a child
I see no reason to start now.

Notes from the past 5 days

Tempos of the Temple: Living as Fire

Following the beat.
Defines a path of fire.
Following the heart.

The sun came out after 4 days of rain: of over 8 inches pouring down. Even the asphalt roads are soggy and sodden at the moment.

All the life flooded to join us inside our house: I have been coming across dozens of new spiders, bugs and such all coming inside to flee the waters.

We share our home. Except with the Hobo spiders, who we kick back out. They are a medium sized brown spider but with a seriously bad hell's angel style temper. So the house policy bounces the Hobos back outside to continue their wandering.

The sun is out again now: touching my back with warming rays, as I write this. Reminding me:

Fire calls to fire, as we live as fire.

The good news today in the United States, the democrats took control of the House of Representatives and maybe the Senate. Hopefully, the United States can honor the troops now by bringing them home and out of a war based on lies.

Life moves on as a fire, the process to be free doesn't end with voting: it's every day with our actions that we build or lose our freedom upon.

Changing Corporate Politics

The United States faces a problem in an uneven balance of power between corporations and people.

A corporation has the same rights as a person, yet it has (a) effectively more legal freedom than a person in this culture thru (b) having far greater resources than a single person.

Until the uneven power balance is resolved, the current political crisis within America will continue to worsen.

Solutions?

The current system only uses (1) fines and (2) consumer choice to regulate corporate ethics and deeds. This current system isn't enough to stop companies from acting illegally or immorally. As these are both policing activities after the fact.

A simple answer:

1) Require companies to put 3% of their profit into humanitarian or ecological aid projects. Just the act of being involved in the community will encourage corporations act more responsible from the start. Look at how Google's policy of "Do no evil" makes difference in the way Google does business. It's not perfect but it helps. If a company had to take time to act responsibly to the world , it would effect the companies outlook and actions to also be more responsible. This is a simple and direct solution.

2) If a company breaks a law, the response should be greater than a fine. Any company breaking the law should lose the right to do business (charter) in the state or country for a period of time similar to a person (committing the same crime) going to jail.

Two simple ideas but it would change everything.

Be free, act!

Can this happen?

Yes, if we begin to push for change, over time we can make a change.

Fortune Cookies

Your fortune cookie says:

Look into a work of art, find your reflection.
Take that feeling: lift it up and out into space.

.......... and float free.

I wrote this for a friend today. Seems to be a bit complicated for a fortune cookie if you ask me. But it's what randomly flowed out of the thoughts.

As a Taoist writer, this is the writing style I like best. Its takes practice, but my best poetry and work comes from this spot of Zen.

I suppose it's my form of personal art to lift me up to float free.
