G'day Casey,

I think that the reason that the old taoist authors didn't define yin and yang very specifically, is that what is yin or yang within a given situation is entirely dependent on perspective. Day is yin to night's yang if we are thinking of going to a dance party. Light is yin if heavy is a crushing (yang) force. Nature is not divided into yin and yang features. 'Polarity' is everywhere but it is perspective that determines what is yin and yang.

I thought your piece was pretty good. Informative and easy to read. The weak point I thought was the two examples in one point you made that included the example of the fish changing sex.

Thanks Gilbert

I will revise the examples.

As you say and I try to make clear:
perspective that determines what is yin and yang.

However, I find it interesting in reviewing older texts, how often Yin and Yang are so precisely determined in lists. Heh: Life is as we make and label it to be in the midst of it all. I almost said at the end. But at the end... well hey it all unravels back down into the Tao and at that point lists of Yin and Yang really don't matter much anymore. :)

I so love Taoism. but then again I wouldn't and haven't been anything else in my life :)
